Looking Back at 2022: The Marks That Made Us Talk
Looking back at Play Whe Statistics 2022, a few things stand out to me. It was a year when some marks seemed to enjoy the spotlight while others hardly showed their faces.
Belly Leads the Pack
Belly (6) led the pack with 44 appearances, followed closely by Dog (20), Fowl (26), and Blind Man (34), each showing up 43 times. On the other end, Little Snake (27) managed just 23 appearances for the entire year. That’s quite a difference when you consider that, with 1,232 draws, each mark would average roughly 34 appearances if everything were evenly distributed.
When the Marks Went Missing
But what really caught my attention was the long absence of certain marks. Dead Man (4) had gone 174 draws without appearing as the year ended. That’s a remarkable stretch without an appearance. Carriage (3) was also missing for 114 draws, while Opium Man (29) had gone 102 draws without showing up. Anyone who follows Play Whe regularly would know how these long absences can get people talking, especially those who keep a close eye on marks that haven’t played in a while.
Repeats and Other Surprises
Then there were the consecutive repeats. We recorded 27 repeat pairs during the year, with Dead Man, Tiger, Dog, Mouth, and Little Snake each accounting for two. Interestingly, Little Snake was the least-drawn mark of the year, yet still managed to repeat consecutively on two occasions. It just goes to show that a mark doesn’t have to appear frequently to produce an interesting pattern.
Another thing worth mentioning is how evenly the draws were distributed across the four daily periods. Morning, Midday, Afternoon, and Evening each accounted for exactly 308 draws, giving us a balanced record for comparing activity across the day.
My Takeaway from 2022
Play Whe certainly gave us some interesting numbers to study. Belly had a good run, Little Snake stayed relatively quiet, and Dead Man ended the year on a particularly long absence. But there’s an important distinction between observing a pattern and expecting it to continue or reverse. A mark appearing frequently doesn’t mean it is on a winning streak, just as a long absence doesn’t mean a mark is due.
That’s what makes looking back at these records worthwhile. We get to see what actually happened, separate the facts from the stories we tell ourselves, and appreciate the little surprises that make Play Whe such an enduring part of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture.
The numbers tell us what happened. What they don’t tell us is what will happen next.
2022 in Detail
This review summarizes validated Play Whe records for 2022. It reports what was recorded in the selected period: draw count, mark frequencies, current gaps, consecutive repeats and the distribution by draw period. It does not forecast a future result or recommend a mark.
At a Glance
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Draws in period | 1232 |
| Expected count per mark | 34.22 |
| Most-drawn mark | 6 — Belly (44) |
| Least-drawn mark | 27 — Little Snake (23) |
| Consecutive repeat pairs | 27 |
The expected count is the simple comparison point created by dividing the period’s 1232 draws by the 36 Play Whe marks. It is not a forecast and does not imply that any mark should appear next.
Most and Least Drawn Marks
| Mark | Name | Recorded count | Difference from expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | Belly | 44 | +9.78 |
| 20 | Dog | 43 | +8.78 |
| 26 | Fowl | 43 | +8.78 |
| 34 | Blind Man | 43 | +8.78 |
| 24 | Queen | 41 | +6.78 |
| … | Least-drawn end of table | … | … |
| 27 | Little Snake | 23 | -11.22 |
| 11 | Corbeau | 25 | -9.22 |
| 3 | Carriage | 26 | -8.22 |
| 36 | Donkey | 26 | -8.22 |
| 23 | House | 28 | -6.22 |
The frequency table shows the five highest counts and the five lowest counts in this period. A count describes this record window only; it does not change the underlying chance of a future draw.
Current Gaps
| Mark | Name | Draws since last appearance |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Dead Man | 174 |
| 3 | Carriage | 114 |

| 36 | Donkey | 79 |
| 5 | Parson Man | 75 |
| 27 | Little Snake | 58 |
| 20 | Dog | 56 |
“Current gap” counts the selected-period draws after each mark’s latest appearance. A mark absent from the selected period has a gap equal to the full period length.
